As we get closer to the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, I can’t help but reflect on my past visits to France. France is one of my favorite places in the world. In fact, it’s one of the few places where I felt at home in my travels. If you have not been to France, let me help you get there. Or better yet, come with me! I hear a river cruise calling us!

To honor my love of France and it’s amazing people, I am raising a glass of Cotes du Rhone. 2022 La Poulardaire Cotes du Rhone to be exact. Cotes du Rhone is produced in the South of France, along the Rhone river and is among the oldest wine regions in the world. Cotes du Rhones (CDR) wine are fruity, easy drinking, pair beautifully with food and are very affordable. They are best served slightly chilled but delicious at room temp as well if you can’t wait. (50-60 degrees F)

I recommend using the 5 S’s of wine tasting: see, swirl, smell, sip and savor. (See my wine tasting tips post for more information.)

La Poulardaire CDR was a beautiful light-med garnet color, long sexy legs. Pronounced aromas of dark and red fruits, like raspberries, blackberries, and spices. It was fabulous on the palate with juicy dark berry notes and spice. Well balanced with moderate acidity and smooth, sexy tannins and a long finish. Fabulous deal at my local shop for $16.99. It paired nicely with my chicken and chorizo tortilla pizza but would pair very well with chicken pizza, cheese and charcuterie board or pasta dish. Take a Cotes du Rhone to your next gathering and amaze your friends and family.

Until next time, my wine friends…
