For the visitor, London is a thrilling place. Monuments from the capital’s glorious past are everywhere, from medieval banqueting halls and the great churches of Christopher Wren to the eclectic Victorian architecture of the triumphalist British Empire. You can relax in the city’s quiet Georgian squares, explore the narrow alleyways of the City of London, wander along the riverside walks, and uncover the quirks of what is still identifiably a collection of villages.
The capital’s great historical landmarks – Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, and so on – draw in millions of tourists every year.

Day 5 Wednesday 08/09/2027   Bilbao, Spain

09:00 to 19:00

Stretching for some 14km beside the Río Nervión, Bilbao (Bilbo) is a large city that seldom feels like one.
Even though its urban sprawl now fills the narrow valley, you can always see the green slopes of the mountains to either side beyond the high-rise buildings of the city centre.

The biggest city in the Basque Country, serving as the capital of Bizkaia province, it has plenty to offer, from its exuberant cutting-edge architecture and stimulating museums to its friendly inhabitants.

Despite its name, the Casco Viejo (“old town”), is not in fact the oldest part of Bilbao. The city started out as a cluster of small fishing villages on the left bank of the river, whereas the Casco Viejo grew up across the river between the fourteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Day 4  Tuesday 02/11/2027 Vigo (Santiago de Compostela), Spain

09:00 to 18:00

Few cities enjoy such a magnificent natural setting as Vigo. Arrayed along the sloping southern shoreline of its namesake estuary, it enjoys superb views not only of the bay itself, surrounded by green forest ridges, but also out towards the ocean.

These days, cruise passengers mingle with tourists arriving at the Estación Marítima de Ría off the Cangas ferry, and set off to explore the steep, cobbled streets that climb up into Vigo’s old city, known as O Berbés and crammed with shops, bars, and restaurants. Along the seafront early in the morning, kiosks revive fishermen with strong coffee, while there and in the lively daily market hall nearby, the Mercado da Pedra, their catch is sold. Immediately below, on the aptly named Rúa da Pescadería, women set out plates of fresh oysters on permanent granite tables to tempt passers-by.

Day 5 Wednesday  03/11/2027   Leixoes (Porto), Portugal

07:00 to 15:00

Porto is the city of wine and sampling at sunset, filled with Baroque beauty and colors on the banks of the Douro River. A vibrant destination, rich in history, it offers its visitors intense emotions and unforgettable memories.
You can disembark at the port of Leixoes and from there you will have the opportunity to make a complete tour of the city, a unique excursion among its major architectural attractions, including Clérigos Church.
Here you can climb up the 75-meter high tower, and after getting to the top of the 240 steps, you will be rewarded with fantastic panoramic views of Porto. Another must-see of your holiday will be a visit to São Bento, considered one of the most decorative stations in Europe. Inside, in fact, the walls are adorned with beautiful terracotta-painted tiles (called azulejos) that recreate the most significant historical events of Portugal. The iron Dom Luís Bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel also deserves to be admired, as does San Francesco Church and Sé do Porto Cathedral, the religious center of the city.

Le Havre – “The Harbor” – is the principal trading post of northern France and a port of call of our MSC Northern Europe cruises. Following its near destruction during World War II, Le Havre was rebuilt by a single architect, Auguste Perret, between 1946 and 1964.

A shore excursion on your MSC Northern Europe cruise can also be the opportunity to discover Rouen, the capital of Upper Normandy, one of France’s most ancient cities.
